NonBioS Levels Up: Introducing nonbios-1.1 and nonbios-1.2

We're thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our journey toward truly autonomous software engineering: the launch of nonbios-1.1 and nonbios-1.2.

We're thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our journey toward truly autonomous software engineering: the launch of nonbios-1.1 and nonbios-1.2.

These next-generation AI agents represent dramatic leaps forward in long horizon coding, autonomous operations, and accuracy in complex coding tasks—bringing us closer to our vision of Non-Biological Sentience that can work alongside you for days, not just minutes.

After months of testing with our beta community and analyzing hundreds of thousands of coding sessions, we've identified two distinct patterns in how developers work with autonomous AI agents. Some projects need to be built from scratch, while others need surgical precision in existing codebases. That insight led us to create two specialized variants of our nonbios AI engineer, each optimized for different workflows while maintaining the transparency and control you've come to expect.

nonbios-1.1 excels at greenfield development—starting new projects from scratch with the architectural vision and systematic approach needed for long-term success.

nonbios-1.2 specializes in brownfield work—debugging existing software and maintaining coherency across very large projects with laser-targeted edits that preserve the integrity of established codebases.

Traditional AI coding assistants work in short bursts—a function here, a snippet there. But real software engineering happens over hours, days, and even weeks of sustained focus. We've rebuilt our AI agents from the ground up to maintain context and coherency across extended development sessions, what our community has coined "NonBioS and Chill" sessions.

nonbios-1.1 — The Perfect Project Starter

Need to bootstrap a project from scratch? nonbios-1.1 is purpose-built to architect, scaffold, and build entire software systems with minimal input. From greenfield web apps to backend services, 1.1 moves with clarity, confidence, and increased planning depth — ideal for starting new builds.

nonbios-1.2 — The Surgical Debugger

This one shocked us. nonbios-1.2 specializes in debugging and editing existing codebases, and its precision is something we’ve never seen before. Whether it's tracking bugs across thousands of lines or making coherent edits during multi-day sessions, 1.2 has a surgical quality — it feels like pairing with a senior engineer who just knows where to cut.

We've also completely redesigned our interface to support the extended development sessions these new models enable. The interface now surfaces key information more efficiently—showing you which files have been modified, what architectural decisions were made, and where the AI is focusing its attention. This becomes crucial during those multi-day "NonBioS and Chill" sessions where you need to quickly understand what happened while you were away.

What's New Across the Board?

- Improved long-context coherence — both 1.1 and 1.2 sustain focus across multi-hour and even multi-day sessions
- More autonomous operations — fewer clarifications needed, more execution with confidence
- Sharper accuracy on complex tasks — especially noticeable in multi-file workflows and debugging
- Revamped UX — more compact, more legible, optimized for large projects and long-running sessions (especially for our “NonBioS and Chill” users)

Try Them Now

You can test nonbios-1.1 and nonbios-1.2 right now by selecting them in the model dropdown at the top-right of your NonBioS session.

We’re keeping nonbios-1 live during this phase to compare behavior in the wild — but we believe 1.1 and 1.2 represent a leap forward in specialization and reliability.
